Spotlight on Successful Coatesville Graduates

Mike Armento, Owner Of Crossfit Rock Solid

TLG: What inspired or gave you the idea to start Crossfit Rocksolid?

Mike: After school, I jumped right into the workforce and picked up many of the bad habits that are looked at as “part of the norm.” I was eating and drinking whatever I wanted until one day I realized that my health had spiraled out of control. I was 28, my wife was pregnant with our first daughter and I wanted to make some changes in my health.

After about a year of fooling around aimlessly at the gym I discovered CrossFit. For 2 years I learned as much as I could about CrossFit and I noticed my health was at its peak! At the time, the program was still making a name for itself and I started to offer what I had learned to others with a few informal workouts. One client turned into two, two into four, four into eight until I had a consistent dozen people at each of my workouts.

I knew CrossFit would be BIG so I continued to learn about program, taking any and every class, course or certification I could find. Eventually I took a leap of faith, quit my well paying job and opened CrossFit RockSolid in my in-laws gymnastic center….Metzler’s Gymnastics.

TLG: How long have you been in business?

Mike: We have officially opened our doors in January 2011. So, just over 7 years.

TLG: How many members do you currently have?

Mike: Right now, we have about 160 members of all backgrounds, ages and fitness levels.

TLG: What do you think makes CFRS unique?

Mike: When you walk through our doors you are considered family. Our membership is extremely close but also extremely welcoming to new members. We have celebrated weddings, babies, professional promotions, and losses together, in addition to achieving fitness goals. I want every member to feel that the hour spent at CFRS is one of the best of the day!

TLG: What do you think has made you successful?

Mike: I don’t think success can be measured in a monetary figure. To me, waking up every morning and knowing something that I’ve created will help someone either physically, mentally or socially is a pretty cool feeling. We, myself and staff, truly care about each member. If someone has a problem, no matter what it is, we will do our best address it. We see our members as people on a mission to better themselves not dollar signs. This attention has let our membership know that we are in it for the long haul with them. In return, they end up staying with us for a very long time.

TLG: Is there anything that you learned from your time at Coatesville High School that has helped you?

Mike: I transferred to CASH in 10th grade. At that age you are always nervous about fitting in and making new friends. I soon realized that it wouldn’t be as hard as I thought. I was welcomed by so many people. (Now that I think about it, maybe that welcoming feeling was the inspiration for what I want CFRS to be!) I have kept in contact with many of the friends I gained during my time at CASH. They are my best friends, business partners and industry peers.
