Spotlight on Coatesville Graduates!

Featuring: Colleen Quinn-Maxwell: Owner of award winning Kohler’s Bakery in Avalon and teacher in Lower Moreland

Each month, our team will be featuring fellow Coatesville High School Graduates and what they are up to now! Our next featured graduate that we are proud to present is Colleen Quinn-Maxwell!  So we asked…”what have you been up to since graduation day in Colleen?”

1. I have taken on a number of professions since leaving CASH.  I graduated from West Chester University with both a B.S.     in  Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and a Post Bacc in K-12 Health and Physical Education. Additionally I earned a MAED from Gratz College.   I have worked at the collegiate, high school and middle school levels as both a certified athletic trainer and teacher in anatomy, biology, health and physical education.

I am fortunate enough to currently work for the Lower Moreland Township School District as a high school health and physical education teacher.  I am also the founder/advisor of the Students Against Melanoma Club and Co-Sponsor of the freshmen class.

Being a teacher is an incredibly rewarding profession, but I am also grateful to have owned my own award winning bakery business Kohler’s Bakery as well for the past 12 years in Avalon, NJ. Check out Kohler’s Bakery here:

  1. I have always loved learning about the human body, helping other people improve their health and also continuing to be a part of the long standing tradition that is my 70 year old business.  Yes, ironic to be a health teacher and own a Bakery business but life can always be enjoyed in moderation.

  1. I was fortunate enough to be a resident of Coatesville since birth until shortly after college and attended Friendship Elementary, Reeceville Elementary, North Brandywine and CASH.  My mom and brother both taught in the district and my husband is currently a 5th grade teacher at Caln Elementary and has been a Coatesville teacher for 12 years.

  1.  My time growing up in Coatesville was fulfilling from my academic classes, the stage for Meistersingers, the field for my soccer games to the track for meets, all people in my life influenced me to have strong character, look out for others, and be resilient.  Life is not always easy but if you work hard, good things will come your way.

  1. There are so many great memories to remember from high school.  First, I was honored to be named our class president. Truly humbled by my classmates by that title.  I will never forget our trip of a lifetime with Senora Campayo to Spain. An incredible chance to experience this trip with friends.  One of the simplest memories that is long lasting though were the moments during Meistersingers Carol Service when we walked in and the moment we walked out under candlelight singing to our families at their seats. An entire community coming together for that tradition was always an incredible experience.

  1.  I am fortunate enough to have some of my closest friends be ones that I grew up with 25-30 years ago.  That shows the strength of the friendships that are built in a community like Coatesville. I am very lucky as I met my husband, also a Coatesville native, while growing up.  We now have 2 boys, ages 6 and 3 and have been married 8 years.

Thank you Colleen for sharing your impressive career and family life after graduating from Coatesville!!!
